You don’t have to walk far to find great places to eat and drink in Santa Monica and Venice. These beaches have amazing options, from coffee spots to cocktail bars, healthy salad options, burger joints and upmarket restaurants. To narrow it down, we've compiled a list of our 5 favourite places that cover breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert.
QUICK LINKS
MENOTTI’S COFFEE STOP
Menotti’s in Venice Beach was our favourite café in the area. Not only is the coffee great (most importantly), but the atmosphere is also welcoming and casual, the baristas are friendly, it is just steps from the boardwalk, and they have their own record collection to browse through while you wait.
GREAT WHITE CAFE
Honestly, the Great White Café reminded us of cafes from our home in Sydney. From the laid-back atmosphere to the menu that takes you from breakfast to lunch to dinner, this was a place we felt right at home. The coffee is good, the Great White Breakie is delicious, and the casual seating outdoors, looking out to the Venice sign, makes for a lovely start to the morning.
ALFALFA
If you are looking for a meal loaded with green and goodness, look no further than Alfalfa. Their menu has a range of salads, wraps, breakfast burritos and gluten-free doughnuts. While some people may think a salad is not enough, let us assure you that at Alfalfa, it is. Their portions are generous, and their salads are loaded with vegetables, fruits and proteins and topped with tasty dressings. Their location in Santa Monica also has a beautiful courtyard out back to enjoy your meal.
ELEPHANTE
For a special night out while in Santa Monica, book a table at Elephante. The restaurant looks out over the ocean and is a great location to watch a stunning California sunset with a cocktail in hand. The menu has a range of delicious Italian food, including pasta, pizza, appetisers and desserts. They have a great cocktail and wine menu, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Be sure to book a table in advance, especially for peak times around dinner and lunch.
SWEET ROSE CREAMERY
Who can resist a scoop of ice cream on a hot, sunny day by the beach? We certainly can’t, so we stopped by Sweet Rose Creamery on Main Street in Santa Monica. This ice cream shop makes everything in-house, all from local and organic ingredients, and they whip up new flavours each month based on seasonal produce.
